Monforte d’Alba is one of the most important wine producing villages in Italy and part of the Barolo zone. Other famous wine areas like Barbaresco and the Roero are close-by.
Activities
- Wine tasting and winery visits. The Langhe is Italy’s most prestigious wine producing area. Monforte alone now has over eighty producers see here. Although many will want to venture further, there are two wineries within walking distance from the house, Tenuta Rocca (right next door) and Diego Conterno (large house on the top of hill behind the house) . - Gastro-tourism. If you want to experience Piemontese cuisine, the Langhe offers plenty. Thirty minutes from us you will find Bra, where the Slow Food movement started. Here you can experience the Slow Food restaurant Osteria del Boccondivino whose its sister restaurant in Alba, Osteria dell’Arco, is a favourite of ours. In Alba there is also Piazza Duomo with, Three Michelin star, chef Enrico Crippa. Closer to home, Monforte boasts two renowned restaurants: Da Felicin (top of the hill from the house) and Trattoria della Posta (as featured in The Trip to Italy). Fifteen minutes away in Roddino is the legendary Da Gemma. For simple but delicious lunches, Grappolo d’Oro and l’ Osteria la Salita are just a short walk away from the house in the centre of Monforte.

- Skiing. Prato Nevoso and Limone are only 58km and 80km respectively from the house. Limone is a picture of perfect Italian mountain town, with lots of tiny cobbled alleyways, incredible old buildings and great little restaurants. Via Lattea and Sestriere, around 100km away, are renowned for their state-of-the-art facilities. The Valle di Susa, also around 100 km away, extends over 1,500km of ski runs and trails, set in a stunning natural landscape. They offer illuminated slopes for night skiing and long off-trail routes.
